Regional Police have made two arrests following multiple calls about an individual seen running with a firearm in Waterloo on Monday afternoon. The incident took place around 2:00 p.m. near Hickory Street and Sunview Street, in the University and Albert area.

Witnesses reported a male running with a gun before entering a vehicle. Responding officers located the vehicle, which contained two males, near the intersection of State Street and Hickory Street West. The firearm in question turned out to be an airsoft gun. Additionally, a baton was found in the vehicle. Both items were seized by the police.

The two individuals inside the vehicle were identified as an 18-year-old male from Waterloo and a 20-year-old male from Brampton. The 18-year-old faces charges of assault with a weapon; point firearm; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and disguise with intent. It is alleged that the suspects struck a victim over the head with the airsoft gun and pointed the weapon at two other victims. At the time of the incident, one suspect had their face covered, resulting in the disguise with intent charge.

Both the 18-year-old from Waterloo and the 20-year-old from Brampton have been jointly charged with being occupants of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm.

Waterloo Regional Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and contact investigators at 519-570-8477. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
